Description:
Master Sergeant Kerry D. Johnson (right) of the university's Army R.O.T.C. staff is presented the Soldiers Award by Major General James M. Lyle, Commanding General of the Cadet Command. The award, which is given for peacetime heroics, was presented to Johnson for his efforts in rescuing a man trapped in a burning vehicle and administering first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, until emergency medical assistance arrived. The accident occurred on July 23, 1993, when Johnson was en route to Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
