Noble Laureate Dr. Willard Frank Libby recently described his long scientific career and his discovery of carbon-14 dating, before an audience of 250. He is now a professor of chemistry and director of the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at the University of California at Los Angeles. His lecture topic was "Science and Society." His discovery of carbon-14 dating has enabled scientists to determine the age of objects up to 50,000 years old. The noted scientists attributed some of his success to "luck."
