A pot full of crabs caught near Buckroe Beach. During the summer of 1989, nearly 9,500 female crabs were caught, tagged, and released as part of a research project developed by Dr. John R. McConaugha, associate professor of oceanography. Funded by a grant from the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Stock Assessment Committee, the research aimed to provide local watermen with data on the number of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay and the percentage caught.
