Cecil C. Frost (left) of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has written a detailed study about the Blackwater Ecological Preserve, which is part of the Zuni Pine Barrens Natural Area. Here he discusses tree growth with Walter H. Searcy, who had been the forest supervisor before Union Camp Corporation donated the area to Old Dominion University.

Dr. Lytton Musselman of Old Dominion University explains the growth of a small longleaf pine tree at the Blackwater Ecological Preserve, which is part of the Zuni Pine Barrens Natural Area. The preserve was donated to Old Dominion University by the Union Camp Corporation.

Turkey oak in the Blackwater Ecological Preserve, which is part of the Zuni Pine Barrens. The turkey oak, so-called for its leaf resembling a turkey's foot, flowers in the spring. The Blackwater Ecological Preserve is owned and managed by Old Dominion University.
