Dr. Gary E. Copeland, professor of physics, explains the operation of the department's newest laser to students who were on campus recently for the National Science Foundation-sponsored Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program. ODU and Norfolk State received a $32,000 grant for the ten week program, which funds fellowships for rising juniors and seniors majoring in physics, engineering, computer science, and mathematics. Dr. R. Lee Kernell, director of the program, said that "one benefit of the program is that it is helpful in recruiting good quality students for graduate study at ODU."
