Old Dominion's Military Career Transition Program was featured on "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer" in 1997. Ed Lee, a cameraman with WETA-TV in Washington, DC, which produced the show, moves in for a shot of Joe Sapere and his fourth-grade students at Shelton Park Elementary School in Virginia Beach. A 1992 graduate of the ODU program, Sapere served in the Air Force for 26 years before returning to the classroom to earn his master's degree and teaching certificate.
