Norfolk's downtown waterfront boasts the 461-room Omni International Hotel (left). Office and government buildings and Scope Convention and Cultural Center have replaced the Navy town image of yesteryear. Of the 12,000 rooms in the area, 5,000 are located within Norfolk, including 1,500 along the Chesapeake Bay's Ocean View Beach.

Sitting on the delightful Lafayette River, the Hermitage Foundation Museum is contained within a English Tudor Style country house. The galleries, decorated with oak, walnut, and teak interior paneling and carvings, provide a fitting background for the unique collections that are demonstrative of various countries and all ages.
