"Newsmakers" holiday special on the history of twentieth century of Norfolk, using archival WTAR news footage. Footage includes old East Main Street, the Gaiety Theatre, Norfolk redevelopment, John F. Kennedy's campaign visit, Oyster Bowl Parade, Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, and the Little Creek to Kiptopeke Ferry. Some footage does not have sound. Compilation of outtake footage regarding urban redevelopment in areas throughout Norfolk which include the demolition of old buildings on East Main Street, Brambleton Avenue, the Route 58 expansion near Norfolk General Hospital and the Portsmouth Tunnel, the construction of the Golden Triangle Hotel, and the building of the City Hall and Jail Complex. Footage from the construction of the Chesapeake-Bay Bridge Tunnel and vintage photos of Norfolk at the turn of the century are also featured. Footage has no sound. B-roll/outtake footage. 0:29:39
